Shakespeare in the Garden - A Midsummer Night's Dream

About this event

Bring a picnic and something to sit on; it's time for Shakespeare in the Garden! Overgrown Theatre is delighted to announce its 2026 production of one of Shakespeare’s most well-known comedies: A Midsummer Night’s Dream. With lovers, fairies, and mischief abound, this is one dream you won’t want to wake up from.

When Hermia and Lysander run away from the patriarchal society attempting to keep them from getting married, they stumble into a fantastical world where fairies are arguing, and the mechanicals are rehearsing. When Demetrius, fuelled by love for Hermia, and Helena, fuelled by love for Demetrius, follow suit into the woods, Puck and Oberon hatch a plot to cure the lovesick Helena and meddle with the Fairy Queen, Titania. The mischievous Puck takes the opportunity to cause chaos, swap lovers, and turn actors into donkeys. As the three plots collide and culminate in a play within a play, you’ll be sure to be confused, delighted and enthralled by this long and farcical midsummer’s night.

Overgrown Theatre Company is a new theatre company founded by students from the Manchester School of Theatre. Focusing on developing queer and female artists and productions, Overgrown is excited to make this production a fun and engaging way to enjoy Shakespeare set at a 90s music festival. Put on your bucket hats and shell suits, bring a picnic blanket and get ready to enjoy Shakespeare in the Garden.
