How Transfers Work
Sometimes plans change. Ticket transfers let fans send their ticket to someone else securely, without involving the organiser. The original ticket is invalidated and a new ticket with a fresh QR code is generated for the recipient.
The Process
- Fan initiates a transfer from their account, entering the recipient email
- Recipient receives an email with a secure link
- Recipient accepts the transfer (creating an account if needed)
- Original ticket is invalidated, new ticket is generated
- Both parties receive confirmation emails
Security
- Transfer links expire after 7 days
- Secure token prevents unauthorised access
- Original ticket code is retired and cannot be used
- New QR code is generated for the recipient
- Full audit trail of all transfers
For Organisers
Transfers happen between fans without organiser involvement. You can see transfer history in your dashboard. Transfers are an alternative to refunds — the ticket stays sold, just with a different holder.
Why Ticket Transfers Exist
Life happens. You buy a ticket with every intention of attending, and then work, illness, or a family commitment gets in the way. Ticket transfers solve this problem by letting you securely pass your ticket to someone else — no informal resale, no screenshots, no risk of fraud.
The Transfer Process Step by Step
- Initiate: Log into your Tickts account, find the ticket, and select "Transfer." Enter the recipient email address.
- Notification: The recipient receives an email with a secure, unique transfer link. This link expires after 7 days.
- Accept: The recipient clicks the link and either logs into their existing Tickts account or creates a new one.
- New ticket issued: Your original ticket is immediately invalidated. A brand new ticket with a unique QR code is generated for the recipient.
- Confirmation: Both parties receive email confirmations — you confirming the transfer, and the recipient with their new ticket.
Security Built Into Every Transfer
Ticket transfers on Tickts are designed with fraud prevention at every step:
- One-time codes: Each transfer generates a cryptographically secure token. This token cannot be guessed, reused, or shared with multiple people.
- Time limits: Transfer links expire after 7 days. Unclaimed transfers automatically return the ticket to the original buyer.
- Identity verification: Recipients must verify their email address before accepting a transfer.
- Complete invalidation: The original ticket QR code is permanently deactivated. There is no way for both the original buyer and recipient to attempt entry with the same ticket.
- Audit trail: Every transfer is logged with timestamps, IP addresses, and user identities. Organisers can view the transfer history for any ticket.
Transfers vs Resale
Tickts does not facilitate resale — transfers are peer-to-peer with no money changing hands through the platform. This is a deliberate choice to combat ticket touting, protect fans from inflated prices, and ensure tickets reach genuine attendees.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I cancel a transfer before it is accepted?
Yes. Until the recipient accepts the transfer, you can cancel it from your Tickts account. Your original ticket will be restored and remain valid.
What if the recipient does not have a Tickts account?
They will be prompted to create one when they click the transfer link. Registration is free and takes less than a minute.
Can I transfer a ticket more than once?
Each ticket can only be transferred once. This prevents tickets from being passed through multiple hands, which could facilitate touting or create chain-of-ownership confusion.
