Putting on your own gig is a huge amount of work, and once the night is over most of that energy vanishes into thin air. It does not have to. A single show, captured well, can give you months of content: audio to release, video for socials, and a professional press kit that helps you get booked again. Why capturing your gig is worth it
Promoters and venues book acts they can see and hear. A phone clip shot from the back of the room rarely does you justice, and it is the first thing a booker judges you on. A properly recorded set, a short promo video, and a couple of strong live clips give you the raw material for everything that comes next: your socials, your mailing list, your next ticket launch, and the electronic press kit that gets you the next slot. The show already happened. The only question is whether you walk away with something to show for it.
Record your set
The cheapest option is a stereo recorder or a feed from the desk, but a raw board mix is often unbalanced and hard to rescue. If the performance matters, a multitrack recording, where each instrument and vocal is captured separately, gives you the freedom to mix it properly afterwards. That is the difference between a clip you bury and a track you are proud to release. Many small venues can take a multitrack feed if you ask in advance, and a studio can then mix and master it into something release-ready.
Film it while you are at it
Video is what actually travels. You do not need a full crew: two or three cameras, decent lighting, and audio synced from your live recording will produce clips that look far beyond your budget. Short vertical cuts for Reels, TikTok and Shorts do the heavy lifting on discovery, while a longer live video sits on your channel as proof you can hold a room. Film more than you think you need; you can always cut it down.
Turn it into a demo or EP that gets you booked
Once you have the multitrack, a proper mix and master turns a good performance into a professional release. Even two or three well-produced tracks give you something to pitch to venues, playlists and press, and a reason to email your list.
