Walk-Up Sales

Not everyone buys tickets in advance. The box office feature lets you sell tickets at the door, recording them in the same system as online sales for accurate attendance and revenue tracking.

How It Works

  • Open the box office from your dashboard on the event page
  • Select ticket type and quantity
  • Take payment in cash or card (outside Tickts)
  • System generates a ticket record for accurate counting
  • No processing fees on box office sales (no payment goes through Stripe)

Best Practice

Use box office mode alongside regular online sales. This gives you a complete picture of attendance and revenue. The dashboard shows both online and box office sales separately so you can see the breakdown.

What Is Box Office Mode?

Box office mode on Tickts lets you sell tickets in person at the venue entrance. Not every attendee buys online — some prefer to pay on the door, arrive without pre-booking, or may not have had a chance to buy in advance. Box office mode captures these sales digitally while maintaining the same inventory management as online sales.

How It Works

  1. Open the Tickts box office on any device — phone, tablet, or laptop — at the venue entrance
  2. Select the ticket type and quantity for the walk-up customer
  3. Process payment using the customer card via Stripe (contactless, chip, or online)
  4. The ticket is automatically generated and can be emailed to the customer or checked in immediately
  5. Inventory updates in real time across both online and box office channels

Benefits of Digital Walk-Up Sales

  • Accurate records: Every sale is recorded in your Tickts dashboard. No more counting cash in envelopes or reconciling handwritten lists.
  • Real-time inventory: Walk-up sales immediately reduce available online inventory. If your event is close to selling out, the box office and website stay in sync automatically.
  • Card payments: Accept contactless and chip-and-pin payments at the door. Fans increasingly expect to pay by card, and cash-only policies turn away potential attendees.
  • Attendance tracking: Walk-up customers are recorded in your attendee list alongside pre-booked attendees, giving you a complete picture of who attended.

Tips for Smooth Walk-Up Sales

  • Prepare the device: Have the box office page loaded and ready before doors open. A tablet on a small stand works well at an entrance desk.
  • Stable internet: Box office mode needs internet to process payments and update inventory. A mobile hotspot is a reliable backup for venues with unreliable WiFi.
  • Price list visible: Display ticket prices clearly so walk-up customers know the cost before reaching the front of the queue.
  • Offer both channels: Let walk-up customers know they can also buy online for future events. Collecting their email at box office creates a marketing opportunity for next time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I accept cash with box office mode?

Box office mode processes card payments through Stripe. If you also accept cash, you can record the sale in the box office as a manual entry to maintain accurate attendance records, though the cash transaction itself happens outside the platform.

Do walk-up customers get a QR ticket?

Yes. Walk-up purchases generate a standard Tickts ticket with a QR code. The customer can receive it by email or be checked in immediately at the box office.

What if the event is sold out online — can I still sell at the door?

If tickets are genuinely sold out, box office mode will show zero remaining tickets. If you want to hold back tickets specifically for walk-up sales, set a lower online quantity and keep a reserve for the door.
